I stumbled across this article and was reminded of how good How to Win Friends and Influence People is.

Short version of the article – man turns possible frustrating service experience into positive one.

Sales pitch – read this book.

If you haven’t ever read it, pick it up by the end of the week and sit down and read it.

It will make an exceptional difference in your life.

Make it a great day.

"The right time is any time that one is still so lucky as to have." – Henry James

This is a great reminder on a Monday.

Been waiting on the right time to get started on something?

Been waiting on the right time to stop doing something?

Been waiting on the right time to have a difficult conversation?

The right time is whatever time you are lucky enough to have. It’s that simple. Get started.

Make it a great day.

The Phrase That Pays

EB – For everyone who asks receives, and the one seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. – Matthew 7:8

JD – Wherever there is a human being, there is an opportunity for a kindness. Lucius Annaeus Seneca

MS – And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

JW – Call me Harry. – Zachary Warmbir

I really like the idea of the quote from Seneca.

The opportunities for kindness abound.

If we look at those around us an opportunity for kindness, we will find that every person we meet is in need of some kindness.

Look today for opportunities for kindness.

I’m sure you will find them.

Make it a great day.

This video is longer than what I usually share, but there is a lot of good stuff in there.

He illustrates a great example of the importance of attitude.

Some see the Millennials as a bunch of complaining, entitled young people who don’t get it.

Instead, Simon sees the opportunity.

A whole generation (and a very large one) of young people desperate to be influenced in a positive way.

The opportunity to impact future generations is huge.

And those of us over the age of 30 or so have a tremendous responsibility to do our best with it.

Not to complain about how “they just don’t get it”.

We must lead by example and be what we hope they will grow up to be.

Honesty, character, integrity, love, faith, hope – all of these things will always need to be modeled and taught. And others will always be wanting to learn.

There is much more to the video than the idea I am sharing above, so please watch it. Simon shares some good ideas on modeling and encouraging that might spark you on your journey.

One last thought:

I’m pro-Millennial because I am pro people. I believe that God made each of us unique and that he has a special place planned for everyone. I’m just hoping to play my part and want to encourage you as you play yours.

Make it a great day.

Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better, it’s not. – The Lorax

Read this book again last night with Annie.

The message seems particularly important with today’s political climate.

After the line above the Lorax gives the Onceler the last of the Truffula seeds and tells him to plant and care for it.

I believe we must do the same with hope.

What if we planted hope wherever we went?

What if others saw hope in our actions and attitudes?

What if we nurtured even the smallest flame of hope wherever we see it?

Make it a great day.

One of the big ideas when it comes to meeting goals and being successful is the idea of stewardship.

What we do with the money, time and other resources that come our way helps determine how happy we are.

When it comes to how we use the money that comes our way, a big idea that has been sticking in my head lately is to spend money on experiences and not stuff.

This article on Forbes explains better than I can:

http://www.forbes.com/sites/travisbradberry/2016/08/09/why-you-should-spend-your-money-on-experiences-not-things/#287846af1c08

My take on it is that the more stuff we accumulate the more it controls our lives.

We spend our time buying, maintaining, repairing, cleaning, moving, storing, sorting, taking it out, putting it away….you get the idea.

What if you spent all that time and money having fun with friends and family instead?

Make it a great day.

The Phrase That Pays

EB* – “On matters of style, swim with the current, on matters of principle, stand like a rock.” ― Thomas Jefferson

JD – Two roads diverged in a wood, and I– I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. – Robert Frost

MS – All is good because God is good!!

JW* – “So, first of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself – nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance. In every dark hour of our national life a leadership of frankness and vigor has met with that understanding and support of the people themselves which is essential to victory. ” – Franklin D. Roosevelt

Today is Inauguration Day.

A new president will be sworn in and we will begin another chapter.

Meaghan shared this blog post with me the other day that seems particularly relevant today.

https://magnoliamarket.com/chips-new-years-revelation/

Please read it.

Consider how you might show more love.

Consider how you might be part of a coming together.

Pray about what impact you could make.

Make it a great day.

This song is one of Meaghan’s favorites.

Meaghan has taught me to appreciate more and different kinds of music over the years.

We all have the opportunity to expand our thinking and horizons simply by spending time with someone different from us.

If you are looking to think differently and create different results in your life, spend some time with someone different.

Make it a great day.
