Friday Morning Toe Tapper

https://youtu.be/U7dBMYUyRAQ?si=8dnYaacZ6IMQDxXj

Tomorrow will mark 14 years since I started sending out these emails.

Every year that goes by I’m almost a little surprised at how long it’s really been.

The years are sign posts that remind me that I’ve sent a whole lot of emails, consistently over a long period of time.

It’s a reminder to me that it is possible to adopt a new habit and stick with it.

I’ve certainly wanted to just move on and stop. To give everybody a break from having to listen to my random thoughts each day.

I’ve most kept going because that seems better than quitting. It has it’s own momentum at this point.

That thing you want for your life could be the same way for you.

Starting off small. Investing a little time into a new discipline each day or week or month. Next thing you know it has a life of its own and pulls you down the path towards a better future.

Maybe today would be a good day to get started?

Make it a great day.

Resending this daily attitude email from a few years ago. Feels like we could all use a little more love.

The gain is not the having of children; it is the discovery of love and how to be loving. – Polly Berrien Berends

What if love was the whole point?

Not procreation or evolution or doing all the chores so the parents don’t have to (it’s been great to pull that line on the kids).

The point is to learn to love and be in love so that we can be closer to the natural state of our souls when they were designed by God.

This is probably too philosophical and too deep for me and the daily attitude email.

Maybe it’s not the whole point – but it sure seems to be one of the main ones.

Make it a great day.

More business is lost every year through neglect than through any other cause. – Rose Kennedy

A key rule of business is that it’s easier to keep a current client than go out and find a new client.

This is true for Mavidea and Maxlider as well.

Investing in meaningful client relationships so that we can pass through the most value to customers is key to our success.

I also think this is true of personal relationships.

Some people in are life are jerks and should be dropped as soon as possible.

Most of the relationships in our lives would be better off with a little more nurturing and maintenance.

Sure, we can go find new friends, spouses, coworkers, etc.

But most of the time, most of our time should be spent nurturing the relationships we already have.

Make it a great day.

Jake

PS – Hopefully this didn’t come off as too anti-social. New relationships – business and personal are also a part of our journey. They represent growth and opportunity.

Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could do only a little. – Edmund Burke

Andy Stanley says it this way “do for one what you wish you could do for all?”

He talks about it in terms of needs and “what breaks your heart?”

Children going hungry breaks your heart? Feed a kid.

Single mothers with small children make your heart ache? Find a way to help out one mom.

People with special needs inspire you to want to help? Find someone to help.

There are so many opportunities to help. That’s why this concept matters – you can fix them all. In fact, trying to work on too many at once actually wastes your talents and time.

Find something that matters to you and pour into it. Money or time or talents – do for one what you wish you could do for all.

Make it a great day.

Jake

PS – this can be as small as you want. $1 or 1 minute can make a difference.

There is no greater force against evil in the world than the love of a man and woman in marriage. – Cardinal Raymond Burke

The greatest weapon we have against the evils of this world is love and relationship.

For us married folks, this begins at home with our spouse.

Love, in the everyday, ordinary form has the power to defeat the evils of this world.

It expands beyond the marriage relationship though as well.

Love of our friends, our coworkers, our neighbors and even our enemies is the difference maker.

Interaction by interaction, day after day, year after year….it all adds up and the evils of this world are no match to continued action taken with love at the center.

We really do have the power to change the world for the better.

We really can make a difference.

It isn’t all for nothing.

You do matter.

The more you love, the more of a difference you can make.

Make it a great day.

Listened to a Jim Rohn session on worry last night.

He described worry as a thief that can rob us of our purpose, our joy and our future.

So let’s end the week with a reminder – don’t worry (bout a thing)!

At least for the weekend….give it a shot.

Make it a great day.

Just remember, once you’re over the hill you begin to pick up speed. – Charles M. Schulz

This sure feels like for me. As I get older and hopefully wiser – the preciousness of time becomes more and more apparent.

Today’s reminder is to make the most of each day.

Not in some hedonistic chase for the easiest and most pleasurable result.

But in pursuit of the highest service in love.

Make it a great day.

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” – Mark 12:30-31

Jesus said the following when asked what is the greatest commandment. The crowd then asked him “Who is our neighbor?" (Jake paraphrase)

Jesus then launched into the story of the Good Samaritan.

How a man was robbed, beaten and left for dead on the side of the road.

How many “good people” passed by and didn’t offer help but a Samaritan (an enemy and hated nearby country) stopped, helped the man and took care of him.

The story is meant to illustrate that loving our neighbor involves even those we think we don’t like.

After the attacks on September 11th – we banded together as a country and loved our neighbors better than we had in a long time.

The difference was noticeable and the country was better.

Right now we are going through an election cycle that leaves many feeling like their “neighbor” is hard to love. That we are so different and polarized that love has no place.

But that’s just not true. Loving our neighbors is needed now, just as much as it was in the wake of the horrific attacks of that horrible day.

Our need to come together is still as important as it was in response to the hatred and evil shown on that day.

I’m going to work on loving my neighbor during this cycle and I’d like it if you joined me.

Make it a great day.

Obstacles are things a person sees when he takes his eyes off his goal. – E. Joseph Cossman

As I get older I realize that a key ingredient to peace and joy is to keep your eyes on the goal.

To not let others or distractions get in the way.

That’s the easy part. The hard part is to pick the right path.

We can follow a path of selfishness. This will lead to heartbreak and disappointment.

We can follow a path of selfless love and service. This will lead to joy and peace.

Choose wisely.

Make it a great day.

We cannot live only for ourselves. A thousand fibers connect us with our fellow men. – Herman Melville

Jim Rohn says “it’s hard to find a rich hermit”.

On this planet, our success and significance are tied to relationships.

This is a great area to apply the laws of sowing and reaping.

We sow into relationships by being of service, caring about others, being humble and generally being the kind of person we’d like to be in relationship with.

The more we sow, the more we reap.

We also don’t get to control the reaping process. It isn’t a quick fix or a short term situation. It plays out over a lifetime through continual sowing and reaping.

What is something you can do today to get to sowing?

Make it a great day.
