What would Jesus do?

This simple abbreviation that has made its way onto everything from bracelets to tattoos is a reminder of an important part of the success process.

In order to become successful and achieve something we have yet to accomplish, we must act in ways that are different than how we currently act.

One of the ways of understanding how to act differently is to think in context of how someone else would act in a similar situation. In this example, Christians work to act in a way similar to how Jesus would in a similar situation.

Think about something in your life that you would like to achieve or do differently than you do today.

Want to lose weight? What would a skinny person do?

Want to become physically fit? What would an athlete do?

Want to become wealthy? What would a wealthy person do?

Want to become more self-disciplined? What would an achiever do?

Whatever your goals in life, I can assure you that there is someone out there who has done it before.

We need only seek out the stories of those people and emulate what they have done in order to have similar results. Find a book, an audio recording or a training course from someone to model yourself after and study it. Don’t just read or listen, study it.

Start the journey today of studying someone that has been succesful where you want to be successful.

Make it a great day.

Obstacles are things a person sees when he takes his eyes off his goal. – E. Joseph Cossman

A while back we watched a documentary that followed around Ed Sheeran.

His wife made an interesting comment about him basically saying that he doesn’t see the obstacles. He just sees what he wants to do and does it.

This really stood out to me.

How many times do you get hung up on the “good” reasons why you shouldn’t do that thing that would be really cool and fun?

How often do you take your eyes off the goal to look at the obstacles?

Spend today thinking about where you want to go, not what is in the way.

Make it a great day.

Resending this daily attitude email from a few years ago on 9/11 that year.

Not all time in life is equal. – Jim Collins

Not all time in life is equal. Some moments hold greater significance than others. Some moments require greater attention than others.

Today we are all reminded of one of those moments. September 11th was a moment when the course of history changed.

For those that died, those last moments were unequal.

For those that risked their lives to save others, those moments were unequal.

For those that fought battles on foreign soil in order to make sure it doesn’t happen again, those moments were unequal.

For those that hugged their loved ones a little tighter that night, those moments were unequal.

Not all time in life is equal. Some moments require more of us. They require us to dig deep and perform, love, hope, and have more faith than we have ever had before.

In this time we can create something wonderful.

We can create a nation united.

We can create a family filled with love.

We can create a force for good in this world.

We must take advantage of the unequal times in our lives.

Let’s get started today.

Make it a great day.

A few goofy and fun ones for you to start your day.

Music is also a great place to get a laugh and get the positive vibes going.

What song always makes you smile?

What could you listen to that will get the day started off right?

Find something that makes you smile and turn it up loud!

Make it a great day.

A lot of people quit looking for work as soon as they find a job. – Zig Ziglar

Hard work spotlights the character of people: some turn up their sleeves, some turn up their noses, and some don’t turn up at all.- Sam Ewing

One of my favorite scenes from Bruce Almighty is when God and Bruce mop the floor together.

Bruce has finally gotten to the end of his rope and goes seeking help, and God gives him a mop and then they mop the floor together. The sheer simplicity of doing some hard, good work together produces clarity of thought and purpose for Bruce.

There is something almost cathartic about doing some plain old fashioned hard work.

Hard work is also one of the keys to creating and transferring value to others (which in turn determines our rewards). Applying hard work to solving the problems of others can be our unique way of delivering value.

Is there something in your life that just needs some good old fashioned hard work?

When can you start?

Make it a great day.

“You are insufficient. You can do something about it. If you aim low enough.”

What an interesting way to look at things.

Find the lowest, simplest objective that begins the positive process. Build momentum.

Jim Rohn talks about things like an apple a day or a walk around the block.

What’s something low you can aim at today?

Transfer $50 into savings?

Walk around the block?

Read your Bible for 5 minutes?

Go to bed 30 minutes earlier?

Find something low to aim at. Hit it. Then do it again.

Make it a great day.

Yesterday Tony Robbins posted the following on the FaceBox:

“Labor Day here in America is a celebration of the incredible tapestry woven by our efforts. When we give our labor, we’re giving a piece of ourselves, a reflection of our passion, creativity, and boundless joy.

Labor is the embodiment of LOVE in action. When we infuse it with purpose, our daily tasks become expressions of our highest selves. Whether you’re healing, creating, teaching, building, or nurturing, remember that your labor shapes the WORLD around you.

As we mark this day, let’s view each undertaking as an opportunity to serve, contribute, and make a difference. Your labor is your legacy, and it has the power to create a ripple of impact that echoes across generations.

Wherever you find yourself today, take a moment to ask: How can you infuse your daily work with joy and fulfillment? How does your labor contribute to the bigger picture of contribution and service to life? How does your labor stand as a gift to others?”

Great thoughts on how we contribute to each other through our labor (of love).

Make it a great day.

September 1st so I had to send out this classic!

The year is going quick. Fall is almost upon us.

Before you know it, we’ll be talking about Christmas and complaining about the cold.

What’s left on the goal list for you this year?

What could use a renewed sense of motivation and attention?

Make it a great day.

Good questions outrank easy answers. – Paul Samuelson

I’m convinced asking good questions is one we should all develop. It’s great for business and our careers but I’m most convinced that it’s good for our minds.

So many of our thoughts and actions go by without being questioned.

I like to ask myself questions to get out of my own selfishness (I’m a work in progress and don’t always do this).

Some of my favorites:

Is this thought really helpful? Is this thought true?

Who here needs help?

How can I help?

What is really important here?

What would love require of me?

Make it a great day.

Jake

Love is an act of endless forgiveness, a tender look which becomes a habit. – Peter Ustinov

Two great ideas about love in one quote.

Endless forgiveness. An insatiable ability to forgive and think the best of the other person.

A habit of tenderly looking at the other. A day by day, hour by hour tenderness and kindness towards the other person.

In the Bible, the call to love others is everywhere.

God asks us to love our neighbors, our enemies, our husband, our wives……the list is pretty long (I think He didn’t want to leave us any wiggle room).

It’s easy to fall into the “yeah, but….” trap.

Yeah, but he’s mean to me.

Yeah, but he’s a liar.

Yeah, but she’s being unfair.

Yeah, but you don’t know what he did.

We have all kinds of qualifiers to add to a pretty clear directive to love.

Be tender hearted today.

Practice some forgiveness today.

Make it a great day.
