The Phrase That Pays

JS – We can all be wizards.

JM* – 5 year party tomorrow night!

JD – Asking is the beginning of receiving. Make sure you don’t go to the ocean with a teaspoon. At least take a bucket so the kids won’t laugh at you. – Jim Rohn

EB* – Most people overestimate what they can get done in a day, but drastically underestimate what they can get done in 10 years

Tomorrow we are celebrating Mavidea’s 5th anniversary with a party.

I am still kind of amazed when I look at all we have accomplished over the last 5 years.

I feel very blessed to work with such a great group of people and am looking forward to the next 5 years.

Make it a great weekend.

The Phrase that Pays

JS – With every choice you make, you create your life.

JM – Life is like riding a bicycle, in order to keep your balance you have to keep moving. Albert Einstein

JW – Beware the Fu Manchu warrior approaches!

KJ – Even if you stumble, you are still moving forward.

EB – The sky has never been the limit. We are our own limits. It’s then about breaking our personal limits and outgrowing ourselves to live our best lives.

JD – It is never too late to be what you might have been. – George Eliot

Since EB was out today, I got to pick a quote for him.

I love the thought of constantly stretching and outgrowing our old selves.

I have these mental pictures of myself being stretched like a Stretch Armstrong, breaking out of a shell, or standing in front of the mirror wearing some flood pants (like the kids do when they grow out of their jeans).

I have come to realize that just because I quit getting taller at some point during my high school years doesn’t mean that I quit growing. I was actually just beginning.

Find an area of your life you need to outgrow.

Picture yourself as this new person that has outgrown this old habit.

Now start making it a reality.

One phrase close

KJ: Happy Hour is this afternoon!

JS: Come on I’ll Have Another! Let’s see a Triple Crown!

EB: The difference between success and failure is often not who has the most money, or the best education: it’s motivation. As George Washington Carver once said, “Ninety-nine percent of the failures come from people who have the habit of making excuses.”

JD: You are a perfect example of the inverse proportion between the size of a person’s mouth and the size of their brain.

JW: “How much can you possibly know about yourself if you’ve never had to fight for anything.”

JM: “Most great men and women are not perfectly rounded in their personalities, but are instead people whose one driving enthusiasm is so great it makes their faults seem insignificant.” – Charles A. Cerami

The Phrase That Pays

JD – Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed individuals can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has. Margaret Mead
JM – If you think you are too small to have an impact, try to go to bed with a mosquito in the room.

EB – Happy 5th Anniversary Mavidea, you are now a big kid.

KJ – Mmmmmm…..pancakes.

JS – Thank goodness for a great family and good friends.

JW – Never give up on a dream because of the time it will take to accomplish it. The time will pass anyway. Earl Nightingale

I knew that I had to use the quote from Margaret Mead above today for Mavidea’s 5th birthday.

It is a great reminder of what we are really doing every day when we come in here.

We are changing the world.

We are changing the world for our customers.

We are changing the world for each other.

We are changing the world for our community.

Don’t underestimate for a second our importance and the impact you make here at Mavidea.

We can and do make a difference and have done so for 5 years now.

And as I said earlier, it is just a start.

Today is the first day of the next 5 years, let’s make them something even more amazing to look back on with pride and amazement.

JM – 99.5% of polio has been eradicated.

EB – Happy Memorial Day!

JS – School’s out for summer!

JW – The success of a production depends on the attention paid to detail.

Since Monday is Memorial Day, I thought I would send out the letter Abraham Lincoln wrote to Mrs. Bixby again.

I know I have sent it out before, but for some reason it really affected me and I wanted to share it again.

Let’s all remember to take a moment of silence this weekend to appreciate those that have given their lives for our freedom. What a tremendous debt of gratitude we owe.

Make it a great weekend.

Executive Mansion, Washington, November 21, 1864.

Mrs. Bixby, Boston, Massachusetts:

Dear Madam: I have been shown in the files of the War Department a statement of the Adjutant-General of Massachusetts that you are the mother of five sons who have died gloriously on the field of battle. I feel how weak and fruitless must be any words of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering to you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.

Yours very sincerely and respectfully,

Abraham Lincoln

The quote reminded me of how important communication is.

JD – If one advances confidently in the direction of one’s dreams, and endeavors to live the life which one has imagined, one will meet with a success unexpected in the common hours. Henry David Thoreau

I have been listening to the Direct Line series by Earl Nightingale again and he quoted the Thoreau quote above.

I remember hearing it the first time when I listened to this series a year or so ago and how much this quote really stuck with me.

For some reason, I have this lasting mental image of someone moving confidently forward and up towards their dreams.

What have you been dreaming about lately?

What would success look like for you?

How can you advance confidently in that direction?

All good questions to think about this weekend.

PS – Blatant sales pitch: you should listen to Direct Line by Earl Nightingale. One of the best couple of hours of audio I have found yet.

For the Mavidea folks, the files to listen to are located here: Y:\Audiobooks\Direct Line – Earl Nightingale.

Congrats again to a great guy and a great family!
