One of the unique things about living in one of the flattest areas of the country are the sunrises and sunsets.

As fall moves forward we will get more and more opportunities to enjoy the views.

It’s hard not to feel appreciative of this wonderful place we get to live when you see the sky lit up so creatively and beautifully.

Enjoy the changing season.

Make it a great day.

"Treat your body like a temple, not a woodshed. The mind and body work together. Your body needs to be a good support system for the mind and spirit. If you take good care of it, your body can take you wherever you want to go, with the power and strength and energy and vitality you will need to get there." — Jim Rohn

Like a lot of Jim Rohn’s wisdom and quotes this one falls into the category of a reminder.

We all know that we should treat our body’s well.

Maybe I don’t treat mine like the wood shed, but temple would be a stretch.

Maybe when you read this quote, some aspect of your health came to mind.

Maybe your weight.

Maybe your diet.

Maybe exercise.

Maybe a bad habit you need to kick.

Whatever it was, pick one thing and make today the day you get started making your body a temple.

Make it a great day.

Happiness is the natural flower of duty. – Phillips Brooks

Think of who or what you feel a duty to.

Think of what makes you happy.

Feels like there is a Venn diagram there that would be a meaningful point of understanding for many of us.

When we commit to something that means something to us we find joy and happiness.

Make it a great day.

Nature knows no pause in progress and development, and attaches her curse on all inaction. – Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Time marches on. Time waits for no man.

This quote says it well.

I especially like the mental picture of “attaches her curse on all inaction”.

A bias towards action is required. Time and life will take you down stream if you try to stand still.

Forward progress requires constant activity and attention.

Keep ‘er movin’.

Make it a great day.

“Welcome every morning with a smile. Look on the new day as another special gift from your Creator, another golden opportunity to complete what you were unable to finish yesterday. Be a self-starter. Let your first hour set the theme of success and positive action that is certain to echo through your entire day. Today will never happen again. Don’t waste it with a false start or no start at all. You were not born to fail.” ~ Og Mandino

Start your day off right.

Let your first hour set the theme for the day.

How do your days usually start?

Try it today to make your first hour a great one.

Read something inspirational.

Exercise.

Hug and kiss your loved ones.

Say a prayer of thanks for all your blessings.

Knock something off your to do list.

Whatever would be a great start to the day for you, do it.

Make it a great day.

Not really what the song is about but we all have a bunch of little steps to take to get where we want to go.

Jim Rohn talks about how the distance between our current direction and a new one is a small one.

In order to chart a new course we have to take that first small step.

Jim says we can’t change our destination overnight but we can change our direction.

Make it a great day.

We did it! Today marks the 13th anniversary of the daily attitude email.

What started off as a little pick me up at the beginning of the day for the Mavidea sales team has turned in a habit that’s lasted for 13 years.

I really didn’t mean for it to be something I did for this long. I really just wanted to start my day and a few team members day off by thinking of something positive and helpful.

It’s become a part of my life and (I hope) helped a few others along the way.

What’s something small you could start doing that would build a good habit in your life?

Something you could use to build the habit of spending at least a few moments every day thinking about something positive and helpful?

Thank you for allowing me the space to email you every day. Without this email group, I don’t know that I would have stuck with it this long. Thank you for putting up with the emails with grammatical errors and nonsensical statements. Thanks for responding with your thoughts and positive ideas. Thank you for reading along as I work to puzzle together my ideas about how to be more positive and thoughtful.

My sincere hope is that I can helpful to you in some small way. To have made your day brighter than it might otherwise have been.

Make it a great day.

I’ve been listening to an audiobook about a soldier injured in Afghanistan. He had burns over 85% of his body.

This is the second book I’ve read about someone who had survived significant burns. Both tell of the grueling recovery and the difficult personal moments.

Something interesting from both stories is that both ended up significantly disfigured.

Both seemed to have gotten past that and found a group of people around them that love them unconditionally.

I left both stories convinced that it’s too easy to fall into the trap of how we look, how we dress and how we appear on the outside to those around us.

When both of these men were stripped of these trappings they seemed to have found truer and deeper relationships with those that remained.

If you ask most of us if beauty is on the inside, we’d probably say yes. If you asked us if we thought accumulating stuff to impress others was a good idea, we’d say no.

But then we’d probably go back to buying more stuff and spending a little too much time thinking about our clothes and how we look.

The path to more contentment lies elsewhere. In real, loving relationships with people that would love us if we were covered in scars.

The truth is that we are all full of imperfections, they just aren’t as easy to see as the scars on somebody who has survived significant burns.

And all of us have someone in our lives who loves us anyway. Let’s spend more time focused on that than impressing people who probably aren’t even paying attention anyway.

Make it a great day.

We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret or disappointment. – Jim Rohn

Been listening to Jim Rohn again lately and this one stood out.

As I get older I am experiencing more clearly this quote.

Areas where I’ve been disciplined and areas where I have let myself down.

The real kicker is to watch others (especially your kids) make these choices for themselves. Knowing they will have both victory and defeat because of the choices they make today.

Thank you captain obvious. That was very helpful.

Maybe the point is to pick something and be more disciplined about it. Today.

Jim suggests starting with an apple a day or a walk around the block or reading for 30 minutes. The important thing is deciding to be the kind of person who is disciplined.

Make it a great day.
