Silent gratitude isn’t much use to anyone. – Gertrude Stein

Thanksgiving will be here before we know it.

Let’s not wait until then to tell those we love that we are thankful.

Saying it out loud is good for them and for us.

Jim Rohn talks about how gratitude opens up the doors and windows of life and lets the good stuff in.

Seems like a good plan to me.

Make it a great day.

Resending this daily attitude email from a few years back…

Confession time….Halloween is not my favorite holiday.

If we didn’t have kids or kids coming around trick or treating, I’m sure Halloween would come and go without me hardly noticing.

But having kids puts you into all kinds of situations that change your mind about things.

While it’s still not my favorite, Halloween sure is a lot more fun with the kiddos around.

Meaghan does an awesome job of getting costumes and jack-o-lanterns together with the kids and a fun time is had by all – even dad.

The point here for all of us is that if we are open to new things and relationships, we will be surprised what you’ll find.

I know this is something for me to work on…..lucky God sent me three little kids and a wonderful wife to help.

Make it a great day.

Never been a huge Halloween person. My best version of getting in the Halloween mood has been watching the Harry Potter movies with the family.

This song is one of those that might ruin your day as it gets stuck in your brain and is just weird and strange enough to stick around for a while.

The stories from the Potter series are a reminder of what’s good about Halloween.

For a few minutes we get to imagine things outside of the ordinary.

To believe in magic and dragons and elves and magical beasts of all kinds.

Make it a great day.

“I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.” – L. M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables

Annie and Meaghan have enjoyed the Anne of Green Gables series and this quote suits them well.

Fall is a favorite season of many in Illinois.

The season where temperatures are more moderate, leaves change color and the harvest comes in.

God sure did create a wonderful world for us to enjoy.

Make it a great day.

There is nothing permanent except change. – Heraclitus

“You can’t teach an old dog new tricks” and “people don’t change” – two classics that just aren’t true.

Change is constant – there is a lot of change happening all the time.

This quote is also a partial truth – some things don’t change.

Honesty is better than lying.

Love is better than hate.

God is and always will be.

Our lives depend on ability to strike these balances – to be in both mindsets at the same time. To be on a solid foundation and flexible with the wind. To be sure of our core values and open to new experiences.

The trick is in knowing the difference.

History is full of examples – both positive and negative – we need only look and the answers will present themselves.

Make it a great day.

Quality is everyone’s responsibility. – W. Edwards Deming

I would “and it’s worth it”.

It’s worth it for our own good.

It’s worth it because of our teammates.

It’s worth it because of our customers.

It’s worth it because of our spouses.

It’s worth it because of our kids.

It’s worth it because of our God.

Make it a great day.

Reminder for the day…

A week of neglect could cost you a year of repair. – Jim Rohn

Jim Rohn often talks about maintaining the important values in our lives. This short quote is an important reminder of what it could cost you.

A week of neglect of your marriage could cost you a year of repair.

A week of neglect of your integrity could cost you a year of repair.

A week of neglect of your attitude could cost you a year of repair.

The week equals one year part isn’t important. Five minutes of neglect could ruin a marriage.

This is why knowing your priorities and sticking to them is so important.

Imagine having a really nice car but a marriage that is falling apart.

Imagine being super fit but having no friends.

Imagine having millions of dollars but a poor attitude (not going to have any fun with that money).

Don’t neglect that which is most important to you.

Make it a great day.
