Daily Attitude Email 8 8 13

You can do anything you put your mind to.

Most of us have heard this at some point. I even believe it.

I realized something interesting about this saying, it doesn’t say everything.

We can only achieve that which we desire when we focus.

Trying to accomplish everything actually leads to frustration. When we focus on the important, we are able to accomplish that which we desire.

By setting goals and focusing on them, our chances of success increase substantially.

Make it a great day.

Reading through the list again is a great reminder of the simple wisdom shared in his books.

“Each morning we are born again. What we do today is what matters most.” –Buddha

What matters most….those words stuck with me when I read this quote.

It isn’t that our past and all of our accumulated experiences (both positive and negative) don’t matter.

It isn’t that our future and all of the possibilities inherent in each of us don’t matter.

It’s that what we do today matters most.

We can choose negativity and despair or positive thoughts and hope.

We can choose an apple or the candy bar.

We can choose to work out or to sleep in.

We can chose to buy the (soon to be) worthless trinket or save and invest.

We can choose another episode of our latest favorite TV show or some time to study and grow.

We can choose to have the difficult conversation or to let a relationship weaken.

We choose how we spend today.

Make it a great day.

I was looking through Mavidea’s Google Analytics report the other day and noticed that someone had hit the site to look at the Daily Attitude Email below and wanted to send it out again.

I love that book.

Make it a great day.

Last night Maggie picked one of my favorite Dr. Seuss books, “Did I Ever Tell You How Lucky You Are”. That led to another Dr. Seuss inspired email.

Here is the quote to start the book:

“When I was quite young and quite small for my size, I met an old man in the Desert of Drize. And he sang me a song I will never forget, at least, well, I haven’t forgotten it yet. He sat in a terribly prickly place, but he sang with a sunny sweet smile on his face…”

“When you think things are bad, when you feel sour and blue, when you start to get mad… You should do what I do! Just tell yourself, Duckie, you’re really quite lucky! Some people are much more…Oh, ever so much more…Oh, muchly much-much more unlucky than you!”

The book is another classic example of Dr. Seuss. Only by being absurd and entertaining can he so pointedly remind us all that we are truly lucky.

No matter how bad you may think you have it at any given point, you are truly lucky.

But this isn’t an exercise in sending everyone on a guilt trip…..

When I am reminded of how lucky I am, I become more motivated to do something with it. I become even more focused on using what I have in order to make the biggest difference I can in the lives of others.

For whatever reason, we are the lucky ones. It is our job to do something about it. It is our job to help others move into the lucky column.

And like my email on the 51% rule, this one is the same. The good guys have already won. More people in this world fall into the lucky column than the unlucky one. All we have to do is find the unlucky ones and help them move to the lucky side.

And if you would like to hear the whole book (which I highly recommend), here is a link to hear John Cleese reading it:

Can’t believe it is Monday already…..here is to another great week.

The Phrase That Pays

BO – To make a difference tomorrow, I need courage today.

EB* – "One of the best places to start to turn your life around is by doing whatever appears on your mental ‘I should’ list." — Jim Rohn

JM* – "Learn how to turn frustration into fascination. You will learn more being fascinated by life than you will by being frustrated by it." — Jim Rohn

JW* – "Every life form seems to strive to its maximum except human beings. How tall will a tree grow? As tall as it possibly can. Human beings, on the other hand, have been given the dignity of choice. You can choose to be all or you can choose to be less. Why not stretch up to the full measure of the challenge and see what all you can do?" — Jim Rohn

JD* – "The most important question to ask on the job is not ‘What am I getting?’ The most important question to ask on the job is ‘What am I becoming?’" — Jim Rohn

No management meeting this morning so I found my favorite quotes that were put on the Jim Rohn FaceBox page this week. Also had a guest quote from Mr. O’Shaughnessy.

Mr. O’Shaughnessy’s quote gave me a brilliant idea.

Each week you can send me a quote that you like and I will include it in “The Phrase That Pays” email that goes out on Fridays.

Just send it over to me before Friday morning and I will add it in.

Make it a great weekend.

We need to find God, and he cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature – trees, flowers, grass- grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence… We need silence to be able to touch souls.

Mother Teresa

Finding and appreciating silence is a challenge for me. Any time I get a moment free I immediately look to fill it with something. And that something usually has noise attached to it.

Think absent Run’s, when was the last time you sat in silence for 5 minutes?

You may not be trying to reach God with your soul, but some quiet time weald probably do most us a lot of good.

If you are good at creating quite time, I would to see a “reply all” with how you do it.

Make it a great day.

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as if you were working for the Lord. – Colossians 3:23

We spend a significant portion of our lives at work.

This verse from the Bible is a great reminder that success at work is about much more than just doing the minimum or just getting by.

Regardless of whether or not you are a Christian, having a higher purpose than just a paycheck can have a profound impact on your happiness at work.

Think about your average day at work and how you might do things different if you were doing them for a higher purpose.

How would answer that next phone call?

How would you handle that next conflict?

Would you make that extra call, close one more ticket or finish up that project?

A recurring theme I am noticing is the act of removing yourself from the center of things.

When we remove our own selfish desires and put others or a higher purpose first, we get better results.

What can you do differently today to work for a higher purpose?

Make it a great day.

Do you have a daily positive affirmation that you start or end your day with?

Beginning and ending our days with a positive thought can begin the process of transforming our thought patterns for the better.

A speaker I like recently posted on FaceBox asking for his followers daily affirmations and so I thought I would share the best ones with you, hoping to inspire you.

We are where we are because of the choices we have made…

I will be so busy improving myself, that I will have no time to criticize others.

I am just as enthusiastic about the success of others as I am about my own.

I am ready and able to share my gifts with the world.

Do or do not.

Philippians 4:13…I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

In Jesus’ Name, I declare by faith that I walk in divine favor. I have preferential treatment, supernatural increase, restoration, prominence, petitions granted, laws changed, policies and rules changed and battles won, which I do not have to fight, all because of the blessing and favor of God on my life.

It doesn’t matter what happens today. I can.

My life today is a direct result of all my previous THOUGHTS; thoughts with emotion, passion, and heartfelt belief, whether these are true or not, and mostly they are NOT true, simply spoken in the moment. Today from this moment I choose to do change my thoughts for the good – to make me whole, healthy, vibrant, wealthy & more. Today I am wealthy, healthy and full of love.

I AM Worthy Of My Success…

Every day in every way I am becoming stronger and wiser. Today will be my best day.

The only difference between your dreams and reality, is a thing called action!

Make it a great day.
