JS – Become addicted to constant and never ending self improvement. Anthony J D’ Angelo

JW – The simplest things are often the truest. Richard Bach

JD – Chocolate will never let you down. MCD

JM – When I was your age, television was called books.

EB – Don’t rush me sunny, you rush a miracle man and you get rotten miracles.

I am going to use the extra space at the bottom of this email to say Happy Birthday to my dad. At some point during the last year or so of writing the daily attitude emails he felt compelled by the laws of parenthood to ask to be added to the list.

I once had a conversation with someone who said that several years still after his father had passed away he still sometimes picked up the phone to call him and realized he couldn’t.

It reminded me of how great my dad is and how lucky I am that he is just a phone call (or an hour’s car ride) away.

I am going to call and wish him a Happy Birthday today.

I am also going to suggest that you call someone special in your life today and just tell them that. You never know when you could be picking up the phone and only wishing that you could speak to them one more time.

JD – I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious. Albert Einstein

EB – Sometimes you have to trust your gut.

KJ – Without constant activity, the threats of life overwhelm the values. Jim Rohn

JM – Move quickly but don’t rush. John Wooden

JW – The strivers achieve what dreamers believe.

JS – March Madness!!!!!!

Since JM and JS were out this morning, I made up their quotes and made them both about something to do with college basketball.

When I think of college basketball, I think of coach John Wooden. He was one of the most successful college coaches of all time, but what has struck me most about him was how he handled himself off the court.

One story in particular has really stuck with me.

After his wife of 53 years passed away, he started a ritual of visiting her grave once a month. He would write her a love letter and then place it on her pillow.

He did this from her death in 1985 until the middle of last year when he passed away.

If you have ever seen him in an interview about life, he often mentioned his wife Nellie and how deeply he loved her and how much his missed her every day.

This is the kind of person it takes to lead a team to the most championships. This is what it takes to be ultra-successful in life.

Make it a great weekend.

The Phrase That Pays

JW – Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new. Albert Einstein

KJ – There is no substitute for hard work. Thomas Edison

EB – May your Valentine’s Day disgust all your single friends.

At some point during the process of setting and achieving goals we all have to face the hard work required to make it happen.

There is no substitute for that portion of the process.

Sometimes you just need to put your head down and work your ass off to make something happen.

Don’t be afraid of it. Embrace it. Embrace the process of creating something bigger and better through a little blood, sweat and tears.

Because you are worth it. Your goals, your success, and your future are worth any amount of hard work.

Make it a great weekend.

The Phrase that Pays

JM – Thomas Edison was a hack and a fraud.

JW – If you don’t stand for something, you will fall for anything.

JD – Communicate. Communicate. Communicate.

EB – It’s not what you know or who you know, it is what you will do for who you know.

KJ – If we did all the things we are capable of, we would literally astound ourselves. – Thomas Edison

Today’s is Thomas Edison’s birthday and despite Mr. Mathy’s quote, he was truly a remarkable person. It is surprising the number of times in the readings I have been doing on attitude, etc. that Thomas Edison is mentioned.

Coincidentally, I was just thinking about Thomas Edison the other night when I was flying into Chicago at night. The city was truly beautiful all lit up at night. I thought about how truly amazing it was that Thomas Edison was able to come up with an electric light bulb in the first place. But that is just the beginning, because nowadays a lit up city means more than just someone inventing a light bulb. It means a vast network of power lines, power plants, service people, computer systems, on and on and on.

It was a great reminder of something I am believing more and more every day. THERE ARE NO LIMITS TO WHAT WE CAN ACCOMPLISH. If someone from 100 years ago heard me explain what I saw in Chicago the other night, they would say it is impossible. They would tell me that I was crazy. That human beings aren’t capable of that.

We all have the opportunity to “literally astound ourselves” every day.

Have a great weekend.

The Phrase that Pays

JM – You have the right to remain silent…..BPD

JS – What day is today? And where am I supposed to be?

KJ – There are two types of people. Those who make commitments and those who keep them. John Adams

EB – I firmly believe that any man’s finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle – victorious. – Vince Lombardi

JD – The dictionary is the only place that success comes before work. Hard work is the price we must pay for success. I think you can accomplish anything if you’re willing to pay the price. – Vince Lombardi

Since Sunday is Super Bowl Sunday, I thought I would send out a Vince Lombardi quote (and EB was out so you get an extra one).

For those of you who don’t know, Lombardi’s name is so synonymous with winning that the trophy taken home by the winning team on Super Bowl Sunday is named the Lombardi Trophy.

He was known as being a hard-nosed, hard-working winner. Today, people use words like “old-school” to describe someone like him.

Personally, I try to remind myself to look back at some of these “old” values exhibited by men like Vince Lombardi and build them into myself and my family.

The generations before us weren’t perfect, but they sure can teach us a lot if we listen.

One last thought about the Super Bowl. Every year when I watch the Super Bowl I think about how amazing it is that there are SOOOOOOOOOO many people around the world watching it.

And it all started with an idea, it began as a thought and grew into a dream and that dream grew into a bigger dream and here we are. Proof positive that anything can be accomplished and that thoughts and dreams can be turned into a reality.

Have a great weekend.

The Phrase that Pays

JM – Email is a great tool, and a terrible communication medium. Arlin Sorenson

JS – For tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today. African Proverb

JW – Life is not about how fast you run or high you climb but how well you bounce. Vivian Komori

KJ- A year from now you will wish you started today.

JD – Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says I’ll try again tomorrow. – Mary Anne Radmacher

Kim’s quote reminded of a quote from Jim Rohn saying something similar.

Jim says “5 years from now you will arrive, it can either be in an undecided and unplanned location or in the place that you design on purpose”.

He explains that humans are unique in that we can order and shape the direction of our lives. Unlike the goose that has to fly south every winter, we can choose to go east or west or to stay where we are.

He then ends with “you can’t change your destination overnight, but you can change your direction”.

We can’t magically become this rich, healthy, successful person overnight, but we can change our direction so that we are heading that way.

We don’t have to be the same tomorrow that we are today.

We choose.

Make some good choices this weekend.

Since you can’t get enough Jim Rohn, I attached an MP3 where he talks about this.

JW – Life begins at the end of your comfort zone. Neil Donald Walsh

JS – Leadership is the challenge to be something more than average. Jim Rohn

JD – Each of us needs all of us. All of us need each of us. Jim Rohn

Julie’s quote reminded me of Mavidea.

Leadership isn’t just the part were one person is a leader and another a follower.

There is also leadership in a field, leadership in a race, or leading a competition.

If Mavidea wants to be a leader in our field, we must challenge ourselves to be something more than average.

Every day we are faced with the decision on whether or not to do that little bit extra or go the extra mile for a client. And in that decision we decide whether we want to lead in our field or be just another average service provider.

That’s the best part about being here. We have ALL decided that average or mediocre isn’t good enough. We aren’t ok with working at “just another job” or doing “good enough” work.

And that’s why we are different. Not just because we have fun or make a few million wise cracks a day. We are different because we want to do better and except nothing less.

Thank you.
