"One of the greatest gifts you can give to anyone is the gift of attention." — Jim Rohn

As we all know, time is our most precious asset. Giving your time (and attention) is the most precious gift you can give.

I once heard someone quote that kids spell love "T.I.M.E". I would argue that no matter our age, to a certain extent we are still that kid that craves that focused time and attention.

If you looked at your calendar for the last couple of weeks, who or what has been getting this gift?

Is there someone in your life that needs the gift of your attention?

Is there something you need to stop paying attention to in order to start paying attention to someone more important?

Make it a great day.

It’s official, Maggie turned 8 yesterday.

Along with her birthday came a reading of "Happy Birthday to You" by Dr. Seuss.

Here are a few of my favorite lines:

"If we didn’t have birthdays, you wouldn’t be you.If you’d never been born, well then what would you do?

If you’d never been born, well then what would you be?

You might be a fish!Or a toad in a tree!

You might be a doorknob!

Or three baked potatoes!

You might be a bag full of hard green tomatoes."

"Or worse than all that…

Why,you might be a WASN’T! A Wasn’t has no fun at all.

No, he doesn’t.

A Wasn’t just isn’t. He just isn’t present.

But you…You ARE YOU! And, now isn’t that pleasant!"
"Today you are you! That is truer than true! There is no one alive…

…who is you-er than you!

Shout loud, “I am lucky to be what I am!

Thank goodness I’m not just a clam or a ham

Or a dusty old jar of sour gooseberry jam!

I am what I am!

That’s a great thing to be!

If I say so myself, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!”

Birthdays are a great reminder that we are unique. Each one of us is uniquely created.

I believe our job on our birthday is to choose humility and gratitude in response to that unique gift that each of us represent.

Gratitude for all that we have been given.

Humility in the realization that all of us are created uniquely and that our greatest value will come in applying our uniqueness through service to others.

Even if it isn’t your birthday today, remember that no one is you-er than you.

Make it a great day.

The Phrase that Pays

JD – Measure your emotions. You don’t need an atomic explosion for a minor point. – Jim Rohn

EB – Possum on a gumbush! – Deputy Enos Strate

JW – A good plan, violently executed now, is better than a perfect plan next week. – General George S. Patton

MS – The simple path: silence is prayer, prayer is faith, faith is love, love is service, the fruit of service is peace. – Mother Theresa

BAD – The most exhausting thing in life is being insincere. – Anne Marie Lindbergh

For some reason lately every time I hear the word simple my ears perk up a little.

What a great simple plan for life from Mother Theresa.

Most interesting to me was that it all starts with silence.

I don’t know about you, but I struggle with this one.

Make it a point to find a few minutes of quiet solitude this weekend.

Make it a great weekend.

We have a powerful potential in our youth, and we must have the courage to change old ideas and practices so that we may direct their power toward good ends. – Mary McLeod Bethune

Yesterday was a big day for the InternRocket guys downstairs. They launched their open beta on the site.

Being able to observe their youth and enthusiasm has been such a positive experience.

Watching the video of them launching the site brought a smile to my face as their youthful passion and exuberance was almost palpable.

Regardless of your age I would encourage all of us today to capture and embrace a little of that youthful enthusiasm.

Make it a great day.

We don’t see things as they are, we see them as we are. – Anais Nin

Perspective is such a tricky element in our interactions with others. Having and holding an understanding of the unique perspective held by the individuals involved in an interaction is a challenge.

Fortunately though, the place to start to improve interactions and perspective is easy to find. We need only look in the mirror.

Understanding ourselves is the beginning of better interactions.

And since we see things as we are, if we want to improve things, we need only go to work on ourselves.

Improving what we see begins with improving who we are.

If we want to see something different (or differently), we must become different.

Make it a great day.

I have been continuing to work through the 4+ hour seminar of Jim Rohn’s that I talked about yesterday.

It is amazing to me that a 4+ hour seminar is now offered for free on YouTube. More than 4 hours of life changing content, free for the taking.

I know that Jim Rohn isn’t for everybody, but I bet that someone or something inspiring to you is.

There are probably hours and hours of positive content geared toward your personality style and likes and dislikes available on YouTube as well.

You just need to look for it.

Make it a point the next time you sit down to surf for something to watch, to search for something positive and educational. You will be amazed at what you can find.

Make it a great day.

Yesterday I was listening to Jim Rohn’s "How to Have Your Best Year Ever" on YouTube and he was going through his analogy of the seasons of life.

As he was talking about summer, he discussed how summertime in life is a unique period of nourishing and defending our gardens.

He talks about not allowing the weeds of life to invade our gardens.

Some things in life can’t be tolerated, they must be decimated.

Some things we need to have a zero tolerance policy towards.

As you think about your life and any weeds that might creep in, what zero tolerance policy should you develop?

Do you need to give up sweets?

Do you need to end a relationship that isn’t good for you?

Do you need to put an end to an addiction that’s holding you back?

Make it a great day.
